Maybe it’s just the type of family I’ve grown up in, but these are the kind of jokes my parents played on me all the time for birthdays and Christmas.
When cell phones first became popular in high school, I begged and begged my parents to get me one. They turned me down every time, informing me that I was not old enough nor do I “need” a cell phone. Well the same year I received a fake car, my parents wrapped one of my presents for Christmas in a cell phone box. I literally gasped when I saw the box and had one of those big dumb teenage grins on my face as I ripped the box open. I only found a note inside that left me on a goose chase that ended with a phone number and a voice mail of my parents giving me more clues to what the actual gift was. It turned out to be a cell phone, but I couldn’t figure it out because I was so busy being disappointed by the fact that the box didn’t have an actual cell phone in it.
Needless to say, I think this is a great idea. Would probably adopt it for my own Mom, if she didn’t already have one.
I think it could be better, altought it’s funny. I gave mi mother a personalized song (I didn’t do it by myself of course, thanks to cancionespararegalar.com)

Wow, a fake car? That could cause some serious psychological damage.
